Rate Card No. 7 (Effective January 2007)
1. Issuance and closing dates
  Issues: January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August, September/October, November/December
Closing dates: First week of previous month.
2. Editorial purpose:
  To provide the latest news, technology and problem solving techniques to operational management throughout the United States and Canada.

D. Short rates and rebates: Advertisers will be short-rated if, within a 12-month period from the date of the first insertion, they do not use the amount of space upon which their billings have been based. Advertisers will be rebated if, within a 12-month period from the date of the first insertion, they have used sufficient additional space to warrant a lower rate.
E. Commission, cash discount & terms: Agency Commission: 15 percent of gross billing, allowed to recognized advertising agencies on space, colour, bleed and position. Commission not allowed on other charges (such as trimming, printing of insert, inserting charges or classified advertising).
4. Copy and contract regulations:
 
A. Advertiser and advertising agency assume liability for all content (including text, representation and illustrations) of advertisements printed. They will also assume responsibility for any claims arising therefrom made against the publisher. The publisher reserves the right to reject any advertising which he feels is not in keeping with the publication’s standards.
B. Advertising contracts will be honoured for twelve months from the date of first insertion, at the rate prevailing at the date of the contract provided the first insertion is not used within two months from the date of the contract, and new rates are issued, then the new rates apply.
C. The publisher is not bound by any conditions, printed or otherwise, appearing on contracts or copy instructions, when such conflict with policies covered by this rate card. The publisher does not recognize verbal agreements.
D. The publisher shall be entitled to payment as described in this rate card, having completed the printing of the advertisement and having taken reasonable steps to ensure the publication will be distributed.
E. The publisher will not be responsible for reproduction of colour advertisements unless progressive proofs are supplied. Production costs for photographs, art work, film, plates etc. will be charged to the advertiser. Customs duties and sales tax on imported inserts are chargeable to the advertiser.
F. Advertisers and agency agree that the publication shall be under no liability for its failure for any cause to insert any advertisement.
G. The publisher reserves the right to hold any advertiser and/or its advertising agency jointly and severally liable for such monies as are due and payable to the publication.

Mechanical specifications and conditions:

Printing: Web offset.

Supplied inserts: Maximum weight of stock: 25 inches x 38 inches – 140M. Inserts printed in U.S.A. must carry “Printed in U.S.A.” Quantity and production information on request. Note: Custom duties and sales taxes chargeable toadvertiser.

Publication trim size:10-7/8 inches W x 15 inches H

Printing material:
Advertisements may be either in black and white or 4-Color process (CMYK).
Please note that spot Color advertisements will need to be converted to 4-Color process (CMYK).
We prefer Mac-based QuarkXPress (version 3.* or higher) files or InDesign as an open document. DO NOT postscript file. All images and fonts must be supplied with the Quark file. Images included should be 300dpi at actual size and saved as an EPS and/or TIFF files and saved in CMYK mode with all type converted tooutlines.
PDF files should be press ready and have all fonts and images (CMYK) embedded
If ads are supplied in PC format they should be saved as JPEGs, TIFFs or BMPsat 300dpi of actual size.
Files created in Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia FreeHand, or CorelDRAW must be saved as an EPS (with fonts converted to outlines and include any images (bitmap) used or as a TIFF or JPEG.
Files created in Microsoft Publisher 2000 (PC only) and above must be saved as a Postscript file (native files are unacceptable).
Supply all fonts (Postscript only) used in the final files. If the file contains non-Postscript fonts, please convert to outlines or send as a TIFF file.
File size should be built to final trim with 1/8" bleed (if needed) built on all four sides.
NOTE: A Color proof or fax MUST accompany the digital file.
Acceptable media: Zip 100Mb, 3.5” floppy or CD-ROM.

All files must be stuffed/zipped before uploading to FTP server. This is a write only “Drop Box” and files will not be visible to others who upload.

Binding: Saddle-stitched.
F.
Storing of printing material: Offset material will be stored by the publisher for 12 months and then destroyed unless otherwise advised by the advertiser or agency.
G.
Shipping instructions: Space orders, insertion instructions, proofs, copy, etc. should be sent to:
Baum International Media Inc., 2323 Boundary Road #203, Vancouver, B.C. V5M 4V8. Printing materials should be shipped prepaid.
U.S. advertisers and agencies: For shipments valued under $400, commercial invoices are accepted by Canada Customs. M.A. forms must accompany shipments over $400.
Inserts: Ship prepaid to: (phone publisher for address). Include M.A. customs forms. Please show dates of issue on package. Publisher should be advised when inserts shipped and name of carrier.
H.
Paper stock: White, machine-coated, 60lb. Alpha.
I.
Proofs: Proofs of all publication-set advertising will be sent to the advertiser or agency for approval, provided deadlines are met. If proofs are not returned by first mail or courier, publisher assumes proof is satisfactory for publication. Proofs supplied for complete material only on request.
